Screening and Testing
The San Francisco Sheriff’s Office (SFSO) employs a structured, multi-phase hiring process to select qualified candidates for the positions of Class 8302 Deputy Sheriff I (Entry-Level) and Class 8504 Deputy Sheriff (Academy-Trained). Both positions are open continuously. Below is a detailed overview of each phase.
Class 8302 Deputy Sheriff I (Entry-Level)
Class 8504 Deputy Sheriff (Academy Trained)
Minimum Qualifications for Class 8302 Deputy Sheriff I (Entry Level):
- Be at least 20 years old to apply, and 21 years old at the time of appointment. There is no maximum age limit.
- Be Legally authorized to work in the United States under Federal Law.
- Have a Valid Driver’s License.
- Have a High School Diploma, GED, or Equivalent.
- Have worked for at least one year or attended at least one year of college.
MUST NOT HAVE BEEN:
- Convicted of a felony,
- Convicted of any misdemeanor that carries a penalty of prohibiting ownership, possession or control of a firearm,
- Convicted of an offense involving domestic violence, or
- Restricted from employment with the City & County of San Francisco
Minimum Qualifications for Class 8504 Deputy Sheriff (Academy Trained):
- All the above of Class 8302 Deputy Sheriff I (Entry level), AND
- Currently employed or employed with a Law Enforcement Agency as a PEACE Officer within the State of California within 3 years from the date of application filling, OR,
- Completion of a certified California POST Basic Academy within 3 years of completion of the POST Basic Academy, OR,
- Completion of a certified California POST Re-qualification course within 3 years from the date of Re-qualification.
All Candidates who meet the Minimum Qualifications and successfully pass the screening from DHR will be invited to Written Exam.
