Background Investigation

SFSO employs POST-certified background investigators to conduct thorough background checks, adhering to the POST Background Investigation Manual Guidelines. Investigations are reviewed by Command Staffs and the Sheriff. 

POST Dimensions Evaluated: 

• Moral Character: Integrity, Impulse Control, Safety Awareness, and Substance Abuse history 

• Handling Stress and Adversity: Ability to overcome challenges 

• Work habits: Conscientiousness and Reliability 

• Interactions with Others: Interpersonal and Communication skills 

• Intellectually Based Abilities: Decision-making, Judgement, and Learning capacity. 

During the Background Investigation process, candidates will be scheduled for the following exams: 

• Polygraph Exam: Conducted by a Licensed Polygraph Expert. 

• Psychological Exam: Performed by a POST-Certified Evaluator, based on POST Psychological Screening Requirements.
