OVERVIEW
As a San Francisco Deputy Sheriff, you’ll join a diverse workforce that helps protect public safety and enforce the law. Duties include:

- Managing justice-involved people in alternatives to incarceration

- This position requires shift work, weekend/holiday work and overtime.

This position has a salary range of $118,768 – $144,203
Under general supervision, performs a variety of peace officer duties involving the protection of life and property, providing information and assistance to the public, enforcement of laws and ordinances, criminal investigation and crime prevention and suppression; and performs related duties as assigned.
- Patrols a designated area in a radio vehicle or on foot to protect life and property to deter crime.
- Responds to suspicious activities and answers emergency calls for services.
- Enforces District, city, county or state and federal laws and ordinances.
- Assists in settling disputes, calming angry patrons and providing crowd direction and control.
- Makes presentations to community and employee groups regarding personal safety and criminal activities
- Secures information from the parties at an incident scene and collects, documents and prepares evidence for court.
- Prepares affidavits for arrest and/or search warrants, files criminal complaints and coordinates investigative activities with other law enforcement agencies.
- Transports prisoners to booking facilities and processes them.
- Maintains accurate records and writes incident and crime reports.
- Works with investigative and legal personnel and presents testimony in court.
- Enforces traffic and parking regulations, investigates traffic accidents and directs traffic.
- Serves warrants and subpoenas.
Age:
Applicant must be at least 20 years old at the time of application and 21 years old at the time of appointment. There is no maximum age limit.
Judicial Record:
Applicant must NOT have been: Convicted of a felony; Convicted of any misdemeanor that carries a penalty of prohibiting ownership, possession or control of a firearm; Convicted of an offense involving domestic violence; or Restricted from employment with the City & County of San Francisco.
Drivers License:
Applicant must possess and maintain a valid driver license at the time of appointment.
Experience:
One (1) year (equivalent to 2,080 hours) of any verifiable and satisfactory work experience, or one (1) complete year of any verifiable course work from an accredited U.S. college or university (30 semester hours/45 quarter units), or an equivalent combination.
Education:
Applicant must possess a U.S. high school diploma or have passed an equivalency test (GED or California High School Proficiency Examination), or possess a two-year or four-year degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
- The San Francisco Sheriff’s Office operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Deputy Sheriffs may be assigned to work various schedules, including day shift, swing shift, night shift, weekends, holidays, and overtime. Deputy Sheriffs work 8-hour or 10-hour shifts (or longer) and must be willing and able to respond, report, and mobilize as necessary.

- Lift and drag a 165-pound dummy 32 feet
- Complete a 99-yard obstacle course
- Run 500 yards
- Complete an oral interview
- Watch video scenarios and answer questions
- Complete and submit a personal history statement with requested documentation
- Pass a background investigation
- Take and pass a psychological evaluation and polygraph test
- Take and pass the medical examination
